Obama With Bangs At White House Correspondents' Dinner 2013 Is Genius (PHOTOS)

At the 2013 White House Correspondents' Dinner, President Obama professed that he's looking to shake things up and improve his image in his second term as president. So it was only natural, POTUS said in his speech, to take a cue from his wife...

... and get bangs.

Cue the awesome Photoshopped photos:

Uncover gives your MacBook's lid a new, Apple-less kind of glow

Uncover gives your MacBook's lid a new kind of glow

Etsy stickers adorning your MacBook's lid, oft making a cute play on the presence of that glowing Apple? That's so 2012. Uncover, a Dutch company showcasing its talents here at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam this week, has crafted a new method of customizing one's MacBook lid. And, perhaps most importantly, it involves the seamless removal of the Apple logo altogether. In essence, these guys use a specialized laser cutting process that can etch out anything your brain can muster -- from band logos to company mantras. And, as you'll see in the gallery below, the Apple logo doesn't have to be a part of the equation.

The outfit will take in any aluminum-faced MacBook from around the world, and once it lands in Holland, you'll typically see it headed back to your domicile within four to five days. If you're selecting one of Uncover's designs, you can have your machine tweaked for as little as €249 (around $325), while completely custom work starts at €599 ($780). (And yes, you can just buy a totally new Mac from Uncover as well.) We spoke to Jasper Middendorp, the company's CEO, and he confessed that only MacBooks are being accepted due to Apple's unique backlighting arrangement. They're obviously keen to offer similar work for PCs, but to date, every one he has seen blocks or covers the backlight in some way. For those looking to get it on the fun, allow the source link below to be your guide.

Alan Wood dies, leaves legacy of Iwo Jima flag

Alan Wood dies: The US Navy veteran brought a flag from Pearl Harbor to the Battle of Iwo Jima. Alan Wood later served as the Jet Propulsion Lab spokesman.

Like many World War II veterans, after he returned home, Alan Wood didn't talk much about his role at Iwo Jima.

It wasn't until years later, Wood began to share that it was he who provided the American flag raised by US marines on the peak of? Mount Suribachi in 1945.

Wood passed on April 18 in Sierra Madre, Calif. After the war, Wood worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Ca?ada Flintridge, first as a technical artist and later as a spokesman.

Wood had recovered the famous Iwo Jima flag from a salvage depot at Pearl Harbor, and brought it aboard the Navy vessel LST-779, where he was a communications officer, according to the Pasadena Star News. His ship was among some 450 that had amassed for the 1945 US assault on the key Pacific island.

"I was on the ship when a young Marine came along," he explained in the newsletter. "He was dusty, dirty and battle-worn, and even though he couldn't have been more than 18 or 19, he looked like an old man.

" 'Do you have a flag?' he asked me. 'Yes,' I said, 'What for?' He said something like, 'Don't worry, you won't regret it.' "

The US military decided they need to take the Pacific island of Iwo Jima. It was to be a critical refueling stop for US aircraft in the assault on Okinawa, Japan. But the Japanese had some 20,000 soldiers dug in ?? literally in tunnels crisscrossing the island.

While the battle for Iwo Jima took 36 days to complete, after just four days, a group of US Marines was sent to the 556-foot summit to plant a US flag. According to the US Navy Department Library, some 40 men from 3rd Platoon, E Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines, led by 1st Lieutenant Harold G. Schrier, raised the flag on Feb. 23, 1945.

"At 10:20 a.m., the flag was hoisted on a steel pipe above the island. This symbol of victory sent a wave of strength to the battle-weary fighting men below, and struck a further mental blow against the island's defenders," according to the official Navy history.

Three hours later, a second patrol was ordered to replace the flag with a bigger one. Some reports say it was to make the flag more visible, others say that an officer wanted the first flag as a souvenir.

That's where Alan Wood's flag was raised. And this was the now famous flag raising which was captured on film by Associated Press photographer,? Joe Rosenthal. His iconic photo earned him the 1945 Pulitzer Prize, and that image later became the basis for a monument in Washington D.C., near Arlington National Cemetery.

The two flags are now on display at the National Museum of the Marine Corps? in Triangle, Va.

Magnetic Field Art Will Make You Miss Your Old CRT

Remember how awesome it was to hold up a magnet to an old CRT display, and then watch it degauss in a colorful, rainbow seizure? Well you probably don't have any CRTs on hand anymore, but German artist Carsten Nicolai has an installation that makes use of those same magnetic deformations, and it's still fun to watch. Fired TV anchor who dropped f-bomb becomes Web star

A local news anchor?s disastrous first moments on the job have turned him into a Web sensation and an unlikely media star.

After being fired for dropping an f-bomb on his first seconds out as the weekend co-anchor at the NBC station in Bismarck, N.D., A.J. Clemente was cooked.

The unfortunate rookie was looking down and missed the on-air light as he struggled to get the names of the London Marathon winners right, causing him to express his frustration with two cuss words, ?bleeping bleep.? That was the end of his short career.

Or was it?

The tape went viral, naturally, and pretty soon, Clemente was telling his tale of woe to the most sympathetic of people?other live TV hosts, from those at the ?Today? show to David Letterman.

Not bad for a guy from Bismarck who couldn?t make it through one night delivering the local news.

The wannabe TV anchor has been a good sport, and told ?Today? that it was "gut-wrenching" to watch the clip. He called the ?fireball shot? he uttered ?inexcusable.?

His newly minted media-star status has turned into a plea for a second chance at a TV job. As Savannah Guthrie on ?Today? put it, along with reporting, shooting and editing, he has ?a way with words.?

Continuing his apology tour, Clemente told Letterman that he held no grudge against the TV station that hired him, then fired him. The late-night host told him he?s ?better than? the "goons" back in North Dakota and that ?they should apologize to you.? He added, ?If you want to, you should be offered that job back.?

Meanwhile, the ex-anchor picked up some work from the ?Today? show, which asked him to work the red carpet for the movie premiere of Pierce Brosnan's "Love Is All You Need."
