Friends of Berlin Baseball plan golf outing

Sunday, March 24, 2013 10:49 PM EDT

For the eighth straight year players, parents, coaches, teachers and just baseball lovers within the community will hit the links to help the Friends of Berlin Baseball raise money to benefit the Berlin High School baseball program.

The eighth annual benefit golf tournament is scheduled for May 5 at Timberlin Golf Course. It will be a shotgun start, beginning at 12:15 p.m.

?Thanks to the generosity of many sponsors and golfers, the first seven tournaments were very successful with over 100 golfers participating each year,? Friends of Baseball?s Rob Sylvester says.. ?It?s not only an opportunity to get out and play on one of the premier public courses in the area, but a chance to meet friends and alumni and enjoy a great day of golf, lunch, dinner and an awards ceremony.?

Registering early is recommended as the organization expects all 120 slots to fill quickly.

The cost to register for the tournament is $125 per player, which includes lunch, golf, dinner and awards.

Foursomes can sign up for $500. Those wishing just to attend the dinner portion of the event only can do so for $50.

To sign up or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities, contact Sylvester at (860) 798-5725 or rsyl@comcast.net or Dave Baroni at (860) 833-93348, Craig Norton at (860) 604- 5276, Tony Sisti at (860) 752-9123 and Matt Taricani at (860) 913-3104.

The money raised from the tournament will be used to support the program in many ways. New uniforms, bats and other equipment will be purchased. Friends of Baseball also said it hopes to ?continue the tradition of small scholarships to graduating players.?
